The Saskatoon laboratory opened in 1992 and is affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. At TRLabs, graduate students enhance ICT expertise, create innovative technologies and improve Canada's global competitiveness. Students are provided workspace, access to state-of-the-art electronic equipment and a sophisticated computing infrastructure. Financial support is provided in the form of scholarships and also fellowshipswhich may be awarded as a supplement to national postgraduate scholarships. In the second year of study, fellowships and scholarships reach $9,000 and $24,000 per year. Length of awards is up to2 years for MSc and 4 years for PhD.
The collaborative research environment provides a unique training experience for students where university professors, representatives from industry, and staff researchers from five labs in the prairie provinces work together on challenging projects. This "hands-on" training environment results in high value skills training and strong employment demand following graduation. 100% of TRLabs graduates have found jobs in the high technology industry or have gone on to obtain advanced degrees. Close to 70% have been hired by TRLabs industry partners.
The Saskatoon laboratory located 5 minutes away from the campus in the Innovation Place research park - one of the top 20 research parks in North America. The Entrance Process
- A prospective student must be accepted into the College of Graduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan.
- The student must be supervised by a TRLabs professor.
- Student grade average should exceed 80% or equivalent
TRLabs member partners in Saskatchewan are SaskTel, Access Communications, iQmedx Software, Innovative Cardiac Care, Interactive Tracking Systems (Itracks), SED Systems, SIAST, Saskatoon Health Region, Vecima networks, and the federal and provincial governments, respectively through Western Economic Diversification Canada and Saskatchewan Industry and Resources.
